How to Protect ZIP File


As you all know WinZip is the world's no. 1 zip utility for file compression. The ZIP file format is one of the most widely used compression and archiving file formats. The zip file format permits a number of compression alogorithms. Mostly, there are such files have a .zip extension and they are basically used to reduce the size of one or more files and/or to archive multiple files and folders into a single file. In Addition, the contents of a ZIP file can optionally be encrypted and it is viewable to only those who know the password. Both Microsoft's Windows and Apple's Mac OS provide built-in operating system support for opening, reading, and creating ZIP files. If ZIP folder contains confidential and important files then it advisable that always protect it with password.

Here are some easy steps to create and password protect a Zip file in Windows. This will compresses, a complete set of files or folders into a single encrypted file for easy transport through emails. So, these are as follows:-
  1. Right click on the folder you want to zip and encrypt, and then scroll down the menu click to the Send To tab. From which submenu that pops up, click on Compressed (zipped) Folder.

  1. This will led you to create a new zipped folder containing everything of yours original folder. This folder will appear on your desktop as (old folder name).zip and will look like this...

  1. Now, Double-click on the zipped folder to open it. Once you are inside the folder click on File option in the top left corner of the window and then, select Add a Password.

  1. Finally, This will prompt you to create a password to encrypt the folder. Type and retype your password, Click on OK, and Now you have successfully created a secure zipped folder.

You should always make an habit of using/creating a strong password which you can easily remember because if you loss password then ZIP file will become inaccessible for you. In that case you need to use ZIP Password Recovery software to regain access of your valuable file.
